Our research focuses on various processes and phenomena - which are oftentimes counter-intuitive - happening at the nanoscale. At this length scale, things get noisy (convergence of forces) and therefore, exciting. DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes and other molecular machines that form the basis of life operate at this length scale. It is at this length scale, dead and lifeless chemicals forge the machinery, which is necessary for the emergence of life. This scale is interesting to us in particular as in this size regime the energy-versus-length curves for a host of different processes converge (comparable to thermal energies). Our research strives for greater understanding of different forces (and thereby interactions) at the nanoscale and use the knowledge gained to improve the nanoparticle functions.
